Foreign Language Instructor (E2)
Scope of activity
An E2 (E-2) is required to instruct how to have a conversation in a foreign language at private teaching institutes, schools, company-affiliated training centers, lifelong education institutions, etc. in South Korea.
E2 visa has subtypes as below.
- General foreign language instructor (E2-1)
- Teaching assistant (E2-2)
- FTA English teaching assistant (E2-91)
The period of stay is up to 2 years and can be extended.
General foreign language instructor (E2-1)
Who can apply
You must meet the full requirements below.
- You must be national of countries where a specific language is the native language and have graduated from colleges or higher in your country. Exceptions below.
- It is also possible if you have graduated from high school or junior college in your country and have graduated from college in Korea.
- It is also possible if you as national of country where a specific language other than English, Chinese, Japanese is the official language have the bachelor's degree or higher or a teacher license and your wages are above the specific level.
- You must be hired at one of them as below.
- Private teaching institutes
- Teaching assistant employed by elementary, middle, high school without EPIK, CPIK, TaLK license
- Teaching assistant employed by local superintendent of education without EPIK, CPIK, TaLK license
- Company-affiliated training centers, lifelong education institutions, etc.
Whereas spouse of an E1 ~ E7 visa holders and spouse of some science and engineering students can also have E2-1 visa with some requirements met even if you are not national of countries where English is the native language.
Visa issuance and change
You must apply for the visa issuance certificate before visa issuance application. Online application is available.
Long term visa holders can change to an E2-1 visa.
Teaching assistant (E2-2)
Who can apply
Native English assistant teacher with EPIK license, native Chinese assistant teacher with CPIK license, Overseas English volunteer scholarship student with TaLK license, Indian English assistant teacher employed by local superintendent of education can teach children at the elementary, middle, high school as E2-2 visa holder.
Visa issuance and change
You can apply for a visa without the visa issuance certificate.
Anyone who stays in Korea can change to an E2-2 visa as English assistant teacher.
